A research and development project which demonstrate that the industry-university collaborations remarkably contribute to innovation progress.

Bromont, November 24th, 2015 - The infrared imaging project (IR), born from the partnership between Teledyne DALSA Semiconductor Inc., Université de Sherbrooke, École Polytechnique de Montréal and C2MI won top honors in the Technological Partnership category at the ADRIQ 25th Innovation Award, on November 19th.

Besides benefiting from the strong synergy combined from the academic expertise and those of the industrial partners, this partnership also benefits the world class infrastructure of C2MI for the sensors development and allows the implementation of a wide range of new processes and know-how, in 3D integration and semiconductors advanced packaging domains with increasing demands.

Multiple commercial applications foreseen

The IR project allows a new product line of infrared imaging sensors intended to commercial markets including all the added value chain of: detectors on silicon wafers, packaged detectors in integrated cases, up to the ultra-compact complete intelligent cameras, to resolution levels adapted for large market application, as well as for the specialized «top of the range» applications.

An integrated innovation chain

"This partnership is the vibrant example of the role entrusted to C2MI: collaboration with the university network allows access to highly qualified scientists, industry trained and integrating new technologies with strong commercial applications potential. These collaborations therefore represent a unique opportunity for the industries involved to have access to skilled resources when prototyping cycle is complete and the production phase intended for commercial products starts. This award confirms that C2MI business model, based on collaborations between researchers and industries, truly contribute to accelerate the commercialization of new products "says Normand Bourbonnais, CEO at C2MI.
