POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Technical Director, the Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for defining, coordinating, and evolving the overall occupational health and safety (OHS) framework within a multi-organization collaborative environment.
As C2MI hosts multiple organizations sharing common laboratory and semiconductor manufacturing spaces, this role ensures consistency, alignment, and effectiveness of OHS practices while respecting each company’s individual responsibilities toward their employees.
In this unique context, the incumbent will act as the OHS leader for C2MI and its employees while maintaining a transversal role that combines strategic vision and coordination with an active on-site presence. They will structure both internal and shared processes, support partners, conduct audits and inspections, lead the internal OHS committee, and establish and lead a cross-company decision-making OHS committee to maintain a safe, compliant, and innovation-driven work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
OHS Governance and Leadership
- Define, maintain, and evolve C2MI’s health and safety policies, rules, and processes
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and alignment with partner requirements
- Act as the functional authority and reference for OHS across C2MI activities
Internal OHS Committee
- Lead and facilitate the internal OHS committee composed of representatives from various departments
- Ensure follow-up and implementation of committee decisions
- Contribute to incident, accident, and near-miss follow-ups
Multi-Organization Coordination and OHS Committee
- Establish, lead, and facilitate a global OHS committee with partner representatives
- Guide discussions and drive decision-making on:
- common OHS rules
- prevention and action priorities
- health and safety investment priorities
- Ensure follow-up and implementation of decisions
- Act as a central point of coordination between C2MI, partner OHS leads, and internal teams
- Promote harmonization of practices in shared spaces while respecting each organization’s responsibilities
- Support partners in projects, changes, or specific situations impacting OHS
- Contribute to incident, accident, and near-miss follow-ups
Field Presence, Prevention, and Compliance
- Maintain a strong on-site presence to:
- conduct audits and targeted inspections
- identify risks and improvement opportunities
- support teams and partners in applying OHS rules
- Participate in risk analysis related to laboratories, cleanrooms, and support areas
- Oversee machine safety management and risk/compliance assessments for scientific equipment through qualified external firms
- Support the management of contractors, high-risk work, and exceptional activities
- Oversee the functional management of gas detection systems in laboratories, including defining operational modes and response actions
Awareness and OHS Culture
- Develop and support training, awareness, and communication initiatives
- Promote a proactive safety culture focused on prevention, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze OHS indicators, trends, and feedback to recommend improvements
- Collaborate with internal teams (facilities, environment, quality, leadership) to integrate OHS into projects and strategic decisions
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or related field
or relevant certificate/college diploma (DEC) in occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene, or equivalent professional experience - Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong experience in OHS within industrial, manufacturing, technological, or laboratory environments
- Excellent knowledge of Québec and Canadian OHS laws and regulations
- Strong influence-based leadership and ability to work without direct authority
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills
- Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on field intervention
- Autonomy, rigor, and strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Bilingualism (French/English, written and spoken)
- Experience in multi-organization environments, cleanrooms, or semiconductor industry (asset)
