C2MI and Sluicebox Announce New Partnership to Advance AI Carbon Intelligence for Electronics Manufacturing

Bromont, Quebec, Canada and Austin, TX, USA – The Centre de Collaboration MiQro Innovation (C2MI), the largest research and development Centre in Canada focussed on semiconductors, and Sluicebox, a world-first AI carbon intelligence layer, today announced a strategic partnership designed to accelerate sustainability and digital transformation in the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing sectors.

This collaboration will bring together C2MI’s research and development infrastructure with Sluicebox’s Generative Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) modeling engine, which delivers actionable carbon intelligence to electronics manufacturers. As part of the partnership, Sluicebox and C2MI will be able to provide detailed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) reports for willing C2MI customers.

“C2MI’s commitment to a more sustainable semiconductor industry begins with rigorous, data-driven measurement of our sector’s true environmental footprint. By integrating actionable insights directly at the design and prototyping stages, we empower innovators to reduce impact where it matters most. Our collaboration with Sluicebox strengthens this mission by bringing advanced carbon intelligence and environmental reporting capabilities to our partners and customers,” said Marie-Josée Turgeon, CEO of C2MI.

“This collaboration showcases the power of data-driven partnership in tackling complex sustainability challenges. Together, Sluicebox and C2MI are setting new standards for environmental transparency and operational efficiency in electronics,” said Elmar Kent, CEO of Sluicebox.

The partnership enables the delivery of reality-based and customized carbon intelligence for customer product designs and manufacturing processes across various industries and encompasses crucial carbon footprint data previously difficult to measure, including:

  • Critical minerals: Solders and bonding wires account for the usage of critical minerals such as gold, copper, silver and tin. The inclusion of those small volumes linked to significant environment and societal impacts further enables Sluicebox to precisely model the environmental footprint of different interconnect technologies to improve accuracy for industries including consumer electronics and medical devices.
  • MEMS microfabrication: Access to complex semiconductor and micro-systems fabrication data for insights on the environmental impacts of the industry, such as the use of specialty chemistries. This makes it possible to quantify and compare processes towards environmental optimization without performance drawbacks.
  • Assembly and Test: Often outsourced, assembly processes use solder materials, conductive epoxy resins and bonding wires made of critical minerals and testing accounts for long hours into environmental chambers , representing previously unaccounted for and substantial impacts across the IC lifecycle. This provides crucial insights for manufacturers of automotive and industrial electronics.

The partnership marks a major step forward in supporting manufacturers to meet carbon reduction goals and embrace environmental responsibility by leveraging trusted data and transparent reporting.
