Today, Louis Villeneuve, Member of Parliament for Brome–Missisquoi, is highlighting CED investments totalling $1,675,000 in two Cantons-de-l’Est organizations. Thanks to this funding, the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI) and Usinage Préciaxes will be able to increase their capacity to produce, innovate and transfer technology.

This funding is part of an announcement made today by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for CED, as part of the Regional Defence Investment Initiative (RDII) for Quebec, which aims to strengthen Quebec’s defence industrial capacity and increase business integration into national and international supply chains.

The MiQro Innovation Collaborative Centre (C2MI) is a research and development centre specializing in microelectronics. It is receiving a non-repayable contribution of $1.6M from CED. This funding will enable it to strengthen its capacity to innovate and transfer technology within the field of optical and photonic assembly among businesses, including in the defence sector.

For its part, Usinage Préciaxes specializes in the machining of high-precision components for the industrial and commercial sectors, in the aeronautics and aerospace markets in the defence sector. The business is receiving a repayable contribution of $75,000. This funding will enable it to acquire and install specialized production equipment.

A strong defence industry is key to the country’s sovereignty and national security, as well as its economic resilience and prosperity in the long term. As such, the Government of Canada is taking bold steps to foster a more resilient, sustainable defence industrial base, including by making targeted regional investments to increase Canada’s defence industrial capacity.
